The WHCA and GID were asked about the condition of streets such as Uinta, Willow and Briarwood following the recent construction. When we inquired about the pavement, we received the following response:
City Staff has accepted the half mill and overlay performed by the contractor for the Xcel Energy gas main replacement. The requirements for this project were to mill and overlay half the roadway that received a majority of the asphalt patches due to the total quantity of patch exceeding 1,000 square feet in one linear mile. In 2014, the City Council approved the implementation of the half mill and overlay to assure integrity is placed back in the roadways where major utility work occurred. The half mill and overlay provides additional pavement life rather than just allowing the contractor to leave individual asphalt patches in the pavement. The other half of the street is prioritized in the annual Street Rehabilitation Program according to its condition prior to work occurring. This process has been performed on approximately 124,000 linear feet of residential streets in the City of Centennial since implementation. City Staff continues to monitor the pavement quality of the street following the mill and overlay of half of the road.
